About Dr Esterle

What You Need to Know

I grew up in Louisville Kentucky where I practice now as one of 10 doctors in a private Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine practice; Louisville Pulmonary Care.   I graduated from University of Louisville Medical School in 2004 and completed Internal Medicine Residency program in 2007 and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship in 2010.

I was the middle child between two sisters whom I stay in contact with regularly and was lucky enough to marry my best friend; my true better half and the best mother a child could ask for.  I didn't grow up wealthy but wasn't poor either and put myself through college playing drums for a traveling rock band.  Both my sisters and I started out in music at very early ages but have all three ended up in medicine somehow.  I think music taught us about passion and passion led us to medicine and the healing of others.

I gravitated to pulmonary medicine because of the component of critical care with its complexity and intellectual challenge that comes with the field and my early exposure to lung disease symptoms having a fraternity brother in college that died from cystic fibrosis.

Why I Started Blog

I created this page as a way to communicate to my patients thoughts and ideas that I feel are beneficial to their overall health and well being and have tried to do it in a way that speaks clearly from a laymen's perspective and language.  Often there is not enough time in office appointments to educate patients in a way that is satisfactory to both them and myself; either because of time constraints or complexity of medical jargon etc.  Patients then leave confused and dissatisfied.  This Blog is my attempt at offering something more than what I feel has become a watered down standard of care across the nation.  It may not be enough but I would like to start somewhere.  I welcome you to follow along in my journey through this blog.

I believe you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to thrive in this world; your personality, your sense of humor, and most importantly, your heart. All of these elements brought me to start Dr. Mark Esterle, MD Blog.

Of note, I designed, built and am the sole custodian of this site so if you find any irregularities of the site or have suggestions feel free to e-mail me but be patient please as this is a one man band.
